A custom furniture inquiry normally comes as a statement and a question.
"We’d like a new entertainment center with 7 shelves, a space for my new wine fridge and my vinyl collection please?”
"How much would something like that cost?"
Clearly there's no price list for that.
Custom furniture is a PROTOTYPE that’s hand made and flawless...
1 of 1 for a single client. No blueprint, no plan, no list of materials, no knowledge of how much time it’ll take to build. We literally start with nothing...
So how do we come up with an estimate?
Well, over the course of 3 to 5 days (typically)
We design it We figure out how to build it We figure out what materials we think we'll need We try to estimate how much time it'll take to build Once we have all that in a spreadsheet
We present our findings to you as a formal ESTIMATE.
We used to do all that work for free but a week of R & D with nothing to show for it is no joke.
“So if I’m interested... What’s the process?”
1. We take a development deposit up front for all of that Design, Development & Planning.
$600 for small items like nightstands, side tables etc.
$1000 for larger items like beds, tables, entertainment centers, etc.
2. Once we have enough information and we’ve done the hard part, we present that estimate to you.
3. Should you decide to go ahead, we'd ask for a signed copy to verify that you've read and fully understand our terms of service. You'd pay a 50% deposit to secure your order and we'll go from there.
“Anything else I might need to know?”
A wait list is normal for a healthy business. It’s made up of a current job and any clients who were in line before you.
Ask for details and availability when you inquire.
"given that it's an estimate (rather than a bid/quotation or contract), what if you go over budget?"
Fair question... An estimate is NOT a blank check though... Obviously, we can, 'and will' charge more if there are significant unforeseen expenses but we'd never charge more than 20% over the initial estimate even if it takes double the time or there are lots of hidden expenses we couldn't have guessed up front so you're covered.
If we do cap out on budget, we’d tell you and you’d let us know if you’d like us to continue or change something, (Just like they do in those home makeover shows).
If you can't rest without some sort of price expectation hopefully this helps:
We have a minimum order value of $1500 for custom projects. Below that we'd probably be paying to build something for you rather than the other way round.
To Design, Develop, Plan, Build and Ship custom made furniture:
A bed might start as low as $2500 or easily exceed $10,000 for something seriously special.
An entertainment center can start as low as $3000 and easily go well over $20,000 for something that’ll take 3 months to build.
A dining table can start as low as $2000 but a large live edge slab on a custom metal base with all the bells and whistles could be more than $20,000. A bookcase can start around $1500 but something spectacular can get to well over $10,000.
We could go all day but you get the picture...
The point is, custom made is not for everyone, it's special, man made and you really do get what you pay for...
